Who it's aimed at
This qualification is for those working in this role already and is aimed at individuals wishing to prove they have the level and range of knowledge and skills to be able to prepare for and carry out inspections of different types of fire resistant door sets.
Candidates for this qualification will primarily be carrying out inspections of fire resistant door sets in a range of settings. They will be involved in planning, preparing, inspecting and reporting aspects of the fire resistant door set inspection process.
The candidate will need to be able to carry out all of the activities in line with current legislation relating to the inspection of fire resistant door sets.
Entry Requirements
Relevant on-site experience in construction relevant to this qualification. A level 2 qualification in passive fire protection would also support competence for this inspector role.
Units options
Mandatory units include:
- Regulations, Legislation, Codes of Practice and Standards Relating to fire-resistant door set inspections
- Identification of different types of fire-resistant doors, how they are classified and where they can be used
- Types of fire-resistant door sets and component testing and why they are required
- Knowledge of fire-resistant door sets, assemblies and components
- The role and responsibilities of an inspector of fire-resistant door sets
- Communicating with colleagues, customers, residents and stakeholders in relation to carrying our fire-resistant door set inspections
- Preparing to carry out a fire-resistant door inspection visit
- Carry out fire-resistant door inspections following relevant health and safety policies and procedures
- Carrying out comprehensive non-invasive visual fire-resistant door set inspections
- Preparing and submitting fire-resistant door inspection reports
- The importance of continuous professional development (CPD) as a fire door inspector
- Dealing with challenging situations when carrying out fire door inspections
Optional units include:
There is no requirement by the Awarding Body to complete the optional units as they are up to you as an individual, however they will demonstrate your competence which may also contribute to prior learning evidence to any further fire related qualifications you may want to undertake within the next 3 years.
The unit/s can be chosen specific to the individual and what they do in their role.
- Understanding terminology relating to how fire reacts in a building
- Awareness of third-party certification and preparing for an audit
